Concordia rattles La Verne relievers

first_img“The game got away from us a little bit on the mound,” said La Verne head coach Scott Winterburn, who scolded his players for about 10 minutes after the game. Concordia did all of its damage in the sixth with two outs. With a runner on first, submarine-style right-hander Craig Neu came in for La Verne and promptly hit two batters to load the bases and then allowed a ground-ball single to right by Concordia leadoff hitter Daniel Robertson to make it 4-1. Freshman right-hander Daryl Hall replaced Neu and was greeted by Fuentes, who slammed a 1-1 offering over the center-field wall. “We missed a couple of signs and we just did some things that aren’t characteristic of our club,” Winterburn said. “So we’re going to go back to the drawing board and see if we can iron that out.” La Verne starter Ryan Rose was effective in his 52/3 innings, holding Concordia hitless in the first three innings before tiring in the fifth. [email protected] (626) 962-8811, Ext. 2239 IRVINE – Shaky pitching left the University of La Verne baseball team out in the cold on Wednesday afternoon, as the Leopards continued a poor start to their season with a 9-1 loss at Concordia. Concordia (4-0), the NAIA’s No. 11-ranked team, broke open the game with a big sixth inning against La Verne’s relievers. The Eagles batted around and scored five runs in the inning, including a grand slam by right fielder Nick Fuentes. center_img 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
