This full-time,12-month administrator provides overall budgetary, curricular, andpersonnel leadership and direction to the Shaheen College of Artsand Sciences in accordance with the mission and strategic plan ofthe University of Indianapolis. Reporting directly to the ExecutiveVice President and Provost, the Dean represents the College on theProvost’s Council. Academic rank and credit toward tenure will benegotiated based on academic experience. Application review beginsFebruary 1, 2021. The position will begin in July of 2021, thoughthe start date can be negotiated for the ideal candidate.The Shaheen College of Arts and Sciences is comprised ofundergraduate and graduate programs in seventeen departmentsencompassing the Fine Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences,Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the R.B. Annis School ofEngineering. The Shaheen College dean’s office also consists of anassociate dean, an assistant dean and two administrativeassistants.Responsibilities include managing and overseeing unit resourcesincluding annual budget, faculty load, facilities, and supportstaff; supporting and promoting diversity and inclusion within thecollege; encouraging and supporting faculty development, includinginitiatives related to faculty scholarship and communityengagement; leading school initiatives related to student learning,general education offerings, innovative pedagogical practices, newcurricular options, and outcomes assessment and accreditation forall academic programs in the Shaheen College; serving as theofficial representative of, and spokesperson for the College;supervising the hiring and performance reviews of all personnel inthe College; supervising, conducting and fostering scholarly work;seeking opportunities for and overseeing Shaheen College facultyefforts in securing external funding; collaborating with theUniversity Advancement team in donor cultivation and solicitationas needed; and engaging in strategic planning for the College andthe broader University community.Minimum qualifications: An earned terminal degree from anaccredited institution of higher education; a record of successfulteaching, scholarship, and professional engagement to merit seniorrank in a discipline within the Shaheen College; ability to developand maintain a college budget, including entrepreneurial andinnovative approaches to financing; demonstrated success inadministrative and/or academic leadership; demonstrated success inplanning and execution of projects/curriculum that leverageresources and personnel in creative, forward-thinking ways;personal and professional integrity; ability to engage variousconstituent groups in strategic initiatives; a demonstratedcommitment to and/or evidence of successful initiatives that areinclusive; a record of success that would warrant a senior rankwith tenure; ability to articulate the purpose and value of aliberal arts education and its role in professional programs; andstrong organizational and communication skills.Preferred qualifications: Experience with academic programdevelopment and curriculum management; knowledge of assessment andaccreditation practices; experience in leadership at the chair’slevel or higher; ability to represent the concerns of the Collegeto internal and external audiences; ability to secure grants andengage in other fundraising activities; and ability to cultivateand maintain ties with alumni.As a part of the application process, candidates will be asked toupload a cover letter which includes a leadership vision for thecollege, curriculum vitae, and unofficial transcript (terminaldegree only).
