Backed by 50 other French members of parliament, Boyer’s efforts aim to reduce the instances of eating disorders across the country. While the attempt is certainly a noble one given France’s influence on the fashion world, enforcing the legislation may be another story. While Boyer has already managed to pass a charter against inciting skinniness, policing image doctoring may prove to be a much tougher task. According to Reuters, if the bill passes, failing to add the disclaimer “would be punished with a fine of 37,500 euros ($54,930), or up to 50 percent of the cost of the advertisement.” In the case of Fashion Week advertisements, this could add up to millions. And trust me, it’s rare that any fashion, celebrity or campaign photograph hasn’t been retouched unless purposely made to reveal the subject’s flaws. Dartmouth computer science professor and forensic imaging specialist Hany Farid is convinced that photo manipulation isn’t just a 20th century phenomenon as employed in a Polish Microsoft ad last month, but rather something that has existed since at least the 1860’s. He cites an image of Lincoln as being a composite of the President and of another politician’s body. Says Farid in a recent issue of the IEEE Spectrum, “Even as experts continue to develop techniques for exposing photographic frauds, new techniques for creating better and harder-to-detect fakes are also evolving. As in the battle against spam and computer viruses, it seems inevitable that the arms race between the forger and the forensic analyst will continue to escalate, with no clear victor.”Farid points to abnormalities in quantization (or image compression) and multiple points of light as telltale signs of image tampering. As services like Picnik and Fotoflexer continue to power the editing features in common photo sharing sites like Flickr, Photobucket and Picasa, it will be interesting to see how many forgeries are actually detected should the law pass. Two-day strike in Bicol fails to cripple transport Serena Williams of the U.S. reacts after missing a shot against Sofia Kenin of the U.S. during their third round match of the French Open tennis tournament at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris, Saturday, June 1, 2019. (AP Photo/Christophe Ena)PARIS — Maybe it was the daunting deficit Serena Williams faced in the French Open’s third round. Maybe it was the way her 20-year-old American opponent, Sofia Kenin, was questioning line calls.Either way, as Williams attempted to start a comeback Saturday with a three-ace game, she followed those big serves with some serious staredowns.ADVERTISEMENT Williams sat out four Slams in 2017-18 while she was off the tour to have a baby. Her first major back was last year’s French Open, where she withdrew before a fourth-round match because of a chest muscle injury. She went on to reach the finals of Wimbledon and the U.S. Open before wasting match points during a quarterfinal loss at the Australian Open this January.Williams came to Paris having played only four matches since then — she withdrew from two tournaments because of an injured left knee and another because of illness. And she had said she considered not entering the French Open at all.“I’m glad I came, at the end of the day,” she said, “but it’s been a really grueling season for me.”Asked whether a third-round appearance was satisfactory, given her issues, Williams not surprisingly said it was not.“I wouldn’t expect to have gotten only to the third round,” she replied.Said her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou: “All I know is, she was not ready. And it was obvious, I think.”Williams couldn’t control her shots, compiling 34 unforced errors, twice as many as Kenin’s 17. Another key statistic: Kenin won four of Williams’ 10 service games.Kenin also was composed as can be, never getting rattled by Williams or by a Court Philippe Chatrier crowd that whistled and jeered her for repeatedly eyeing ball marks to see whether calls were correct.“I didn’t care at that point,” Kenin said. “I was like, ‘I’m going to check the mark.’” Ethel Booba twits Mocha over 2 toilets in one cubicle at SEA Games venue MOST READ Ceres rises to the top Catholic schools seek legislated pay hike, too LATEST STORIES Undas tradition: 2 mom’s crusade against trash at cemeteries PLAY LIST 01:44Undas tradition: 2 mom’s crusade against trash at cemeteries01:04Early release of convicts like a thief in the night – Gordon02:07Aquino to Filipinos: Stand up vs abuses before you suffer De Lima’s ordeal02:42PH underwater hockey team aims to make waves in SEA Games01:44Philippines marks anniversary of massacre with calls for justice01:19Fire erupts in Barangay Tatalon in Quezon City01:07Trump talks impeachment while meeting NCAA athletes02:49World-class track facilities installed at NCC for SEA Games02:11Trump awards medals to Jon Voight, Alison Krauss Don’t miss out on the latest news and information. ‘Rebel attack’ no cause for concern-PNP, AFP Since those early-for-her defeats, Williams had won six of the 14 majors she entered to surpass Steffi Graf’s professional-era record of 22 Grand Slam singles championships. With 23, Williams stands one away from Margaret Court’s mark for the most in tennis history; Court played in both the professional and amateur eras.“Serena is such a tough player. I’m still trying to process what just happened,” Kenin said, about an hour after the match ended with her covering her face with both hands. “She’s a true champion and an inspiration.”Kenin was born in Moscow and is fluent in Russian. Her family moved to New York when she was a baby, and she now is based in Florida.“I’m proud to be an American,” said Kenin, who wore a blue U.S. Fed Cup cap to her news conference. “I think it’s great we moved to America for a better life for me.”She is appearing in the ninth major of her career and now is headed to her initial trip to the round of 16, where she’ll meet No. 8 seed Ash Barty. At 5-all, she got the last break she’d need with a forehand return winner off a 102 mph (164 kph) serve. She ran to her sideline seat and pressed a towel against her face. There was one last pivotal moment: Serving for the victory, Kenin faced a break point, but Williams’ miscue let it go by. One last error by Williams — a backhand that sailed long — ended things.Kenin dealt so well with the stakes, the scene, the setting. She’d never shared a court with Williams before, although Kenin did try to set up a practice session during the offseason by texting Mouratoglou.Didn’t work out.“Yeah, I tried to hit with her. Taipei: A powerful tropical storm swept across southern Taiwan, triggering landslides and flooding and leaving at least one dead before it hit southern China on Sunday morning, officials said. A 17-year-old died and two children were injured in another landslide in the northern Philippines on Saturday, authorities reported. In Taiwan, an 18-year-old motorcycle rider died shortly before midnight in Tainan city after hitting a fallen tree, a disaster response official said. The number of injured across Taiwan has reached nine. Tropical Storm Bailu brought heavy rain and winds up to 118 kilometres per hour as it crossed the southern half of the island. Fourteen tourists were among those trapped after the landslide in Hualien county. About 450 people were evacuated around the island and 12,000 households were without power late Saturday afternoon.

What’s more frustrating than watching a computer struggle to complete what used to be an easy task when then machine was new? Most computers run slowly not because the hardware has become degraded but because of issues with memory. As users install programs and browse the internet, those files leave traces of themselves behind that aren’t completely cleaned up even after deleting cookies and running program uninstallers.Luckily, there are a host of apps that can easily and quickly boost your PC or Mac’s performance by getting rid of unused files and freeing up disk space. Here’s a look at five that you might find useful:1. Revo UninstallerAfter Windows users run the Revo Uninstaller, this app goes back and clears related files and programs that Windows might have missed in its own cleanup process. The app lets users customize their level of uninstallation, from light to deep, and a “hunting” mode that can pinpoint specific tasks and files to eliminate. The trial version is free, but users who want to unlock some of Revo’s more powerful features will need to shell out roughly $40 for the pro version.Related: Not Sure What to Eat? Billed as “the uninstaller Apple forgot,” AppZapper makes it easy to uninstall programs and their related files by simply dragging the program’s icon into the app. One laser blast later and your hard drive should be freer. It’s a much cleaner and thorough way to uninstall programs than simply dragging them into the recycling bin. The trial version lets users have 12 “zaps” for free. After that, $12.95 will unlock the app’s unlimited uninstallation power for life.3. Flash Cookie CleanerWindows users can clean temporary files out of their internet browser’s cache with the Flash Cookie Cleaner. Not only does clearing out the cache save you space, it also stops websites from tracking your browsing habits and can erase any saved logins in case you have to temporarily share your computer or are concerned about unauthorized logins for some other reason. Best of all, it’s free.4. Washing MachineMac users who want to quickly and easily erase their browsing and download histories, cookies and temporary files cache can find Washing Machine to be handy. The program is compatible with most web browsers and even some less obvious programs that also store personal data.Users can schedule the app to scrub their data at a certain time of day and provides a smart interface that makes it easy to delete specific types of data with surgical precision. The app usually retails for around $10 but is on sale in the App Store for $7.99.5. MemoryFreerNeed more space but there’s simply nothing left to delete? Try MemoryFreer on your Mac. It’s a tiny app with one job: to free up unused RAM at the touch of a button. The app is available for just $0.99. Windows users can get a similar effect with Extra RAM, a free memory management program that adjusts your PC’s memory usage as it runs in the background.Related: 4 Tools That Take the Pain Out of Managing Payroll Register Now »
Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. Free Workshop | August 28: Get Better Engagement and Build Trust With Customers Now 4 min read May 22, 2015 I spend a lot of time working in and around early stage startups that have figured out how to bootstrap their way through early IT needs. The good news is that technology has advanced to a point where many of the early needs are ready to be simply plugged into your site. In fact, I feel so strongly about the current ability to put plug-and-play technologies to use, that I’ve written about it quite frequently and have practiced it for the last year and a half with BottleKeeper. However, there does come a time when, well, you’re in over your head and need to bring in the seasoned IT professionals. “When” is a question that is and can only be appropriate for your business, but let’s look at a few warning signs that you need help sooner than later.1. The site crashes and you don’t have a clue where to start.Having your website go down is one of the most terrifying and frustrating things imaginable as a new company. The good news is that it’s not typically going to happen early on because you’re not driving enough traffic to really push the system. The bad news is that it’s inevitable once you are driving real traffic, which is precisely when you need to site up and running most.Related: 9 Tips to Make Your Ecommerce Business Wildly SuccessfulEarly on the fix can be as easy as calling your hosting provider to get help, but as your site grows and you plug more necessary components into it, things get a lot more complicated. As you grow, you’ll likely need to move away from early stage host providers such as GoDaddy — which are great because they’re inexpensive — into larger, more flexible and scalable systems such as Rackspace. This does come with an enormous technical learning curve as all of the pretty interfaces and help screens go out the window. You’re now in the proverbial “big leagues”.2. You don’t know what FTP means. In reality, FTP — or file transfer protocol — is quite simple, but requires you to have an understanding of the framework that the consumer facing aspect of your site is built on. This starts with your root folder and goes down through content, themes, cache, plugins and a litany of additional necessary files and folders. The positive aspect is that it’s not super complicated to figure out, the negative is that if you do something wrong, you might kill your site — possibly irreparably if you don’t have the appropriate backups, which would result in a complete restart. Yes, I’ve had the pleasure of three complete rebuilds due to my rookie errors.Related: 10 Tips for Finding and Hiring a Top DeveloperYou won’t typically need to mess with FTP until you’re out of the early stage hosts as they’ll likely have some version of a C-panel — or user interface — that will give you a better means of making adjustments while you’re not in the actual files, mucking things up. But what you should really look at doing is hiring or contracting someone that has the ability to manage these things for you.3. You’ve grown and are driving substantial traffic.Although every dollar earned is of importance in any stage of a startup, early on the values aren’t quite the same. If you’re generating $500 per day and your site goes down for 12 hours — equivalent to 50 percent of your daily income — you’ll lose $250 — a lot of money but not likely to break your budget. When you are earning $10,000 per day and your site crashes for 12 hours, you’ve lost $5,000. It’s certainly all relative to the startup and stage but that $5,000 pays for 25 to 40 hours of IT help and is likely spoken for in the budget. When you get to this point, your business depends entirely on a live site and you need to put the necessary pieces and infrastructure in place to ensure that it’s as fast and functional as possible — but doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to hire a full time IT person. Instead, look for companies to whom you can outsource your early IT needs, on an as needed basis, until you’re in the position to create a full-time position.Related: 10 Hacks to Help Your Website Generate More Leads, Sales and Revenue This hands-on workshop will give you the tools to authentically connect with an increasingly skeptical online audience. “Our goal is to offer developers a robust, scalable and open AI platform that makes it easy for them to launch and evolve the amazing experiences they create for our users,” -Kyunghak Hyun, Product Manager of the AI Product Management Group at Samsung. At Samsung Developer Conference 2018, the company announced the opening of Bixby Developer Studio, an Integrated Development Environment (IDE), to developers. This will allow third party developers to build functionalities for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant. Viv Labs CEO/ Siri co-founder Dag Kittlaus told the crowd that their dev tools are “way ahead of the other guys”. The company will also be introducing Bixby Marketplace, for users to understand the new functionality of their voice assistant. This will even help developers make money using the functionalities of this intelligent companion. Bixby, that started as a practical way to use voice to interact with the phone, will now evolve into a scalable, open AI platform to support watches, refrigerators, tablets, washing machine, and many more devices. Developers will gain access to the same development tools that Samsung’s internal developers use to create Bixby Capsules, which will be used by them to build to add features to Bixby. Just like Skills on Google Alexa, developers can create custom Bixby interactions that can be added to various devices in the future. Samsung said the move was in line to support the company’s goal of building a scalable, open Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform where developers and service providers can access tools to bring Bixby to more people and devices around the world. As another initiative to scale Bixby services, Samsung is planning to expand support to five new languages- including British English, French, German, Italian and Spanish – in the coming months. This will especially be crucial to source Bixby-enabled devices like the Galaxy Home and smart fridges all around the globe. Samsung also demonstrated the capabilities of Bixby at the conference. The demo included Bixby helping a user in booking a hotel by opening various portals used in the process. This move – along with expanding Bixby to more devices and expanding support for more languages – is seen as Samsungs effort to increase Bixby’s recognition around the globe.
