Teams win championships, no individual can do that: Sachin Tendulkar to India Today

first_imgAs India prepares to compete in the upcoming Champions Trophy in England, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar feels that the national team has to perform as a unit to be able to defend its title.”I believe teams win championships. No individual can win championships,” Tendulkar said to India Today. When asked who will be the next Sachin Tendulkar, the Master Blaster said there doesn’t need to be another Tendulkar. The next individual will carve out his own niche.”I don’t think there will be another Sachin, it will be another individual.”Tendulkar went on to stress on the importance of a team performance and quoted an example of India’s victorious campaign in the 2011 World Cup where each individual played his part well.”I think it’s always the team and if you see 2011 (World Cup), it was the entire team which was in form. Different players performed at different stages.”While Tendulkar will be enjoying watching the India team play in the Champions Trophy in England, Indian cricket fans will be reliving his days through his upcoming biopic ‘Sachin: A Billion Dreams’, which is set to release on May 26.Tendulkar, in an interview with India Today, spoke about how it felt shooting the film and getting the opportunity to relive those days.”To go back 24 years, right from my first game to the last game, that is just one chapter in this movie. My childhood, how I started playing cricket, those memories are special.”Tendulkar also said the fans will have something special to take back with them after the film as, “The biopic will show things that no one else had access to before. The audience will get to see my romance with Anjali (Tendulkar). How I met my wife and how we took it forward is part of film.”advertisementIndia will begin their Champions Trophy campaign with a match against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 4.last_img read more
